History

At St Patrick’s, our intent is that the teaching of History will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world to build respect, appreciation, and pride of the UK as well as their own country and heritage.

We aim for it to inspire pupils’ curiosity about the past and to develop their understanding of key events and chronology. Throughout school, children will be given the opportunity to ask perceptive questions, research independently, think critically, weigh evidence, take part in debates, and develop opinions and judgement. We will endeavour to teach pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, including those in the past and the present, the diversity of societies and beliefs, whilst celebrating their backgrounds and heritage.
